Secondary Steel Design for MEP Systems > Data center> Ireland

Project Snapshot

Project type: Data center

Location: Ireland

Client type: Data Center Operator

Structural system: Secondary steel support framing

Software: Tekla TSD, Ideastatica, Navisworks, SAP2000

Scope of work: Secondary steel design for MEP services, Connection design and coordination support, Engineering calculations and drawings

The Challenge

  1. The data center contained dense MEP services, including containment systems, cable trays, and pipework.
  2. Secondary steel supports had to fit within limited service zones without clashes.
  3. Structural design needed to align closely with MEP layouts that were evolving during design.
  4. Any mis-coordination could delay installation and commissioning.

Our Engineering Approach

  1. We developed a coordinated secondary steel layout aligned with MEP routing and equipment positions.
  2. Structural elements were designed to efficiently support service loads without over design.
  3. Connection details were optimized for ease of fabrication and rapid site installation.
  4. The design process remained flexible to accommodate updates in MEP layouts.
  5. All engineering was delivered in accordance with Eurocodes.

Tools and Deliverables

  1. Structural engineering calculations for secondary steel elements.
  2. Detailed coordination drawings supporting MEP installation.
  3. Connection design information suitable for fabrication and site use.

Results & Value Delivered

  1. Delivered a clash-free secondary steel design supporting efficient MEP installation.
  2. Reduced coordination issues during construction.
  3. Improved installation speed and predictability.
  4. Supported smooth progression towards commissioning.

Value to the Client

  1. Delivered data-center-ready structural design aligned with MEP coordination needs.
  2. Reduced installation and program risk.
  3. Provided practical, buildable engineering solutions.
  4. Demonstrated strong experience in EU data center structural design.
