Steel Detailing & BIM Coordination > Data Center> Ireland

Project Snapshot

Project type: Data center

Location: Ireland

Project scale: Large

Client type: Consultant

Project status: Completed

Software: Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, Ideastatica, Navisworks

Scope of work: Structural steel detailing and BIM modelling up to LOD 350

The Challenge

  1. The project involved dense service zones with extremely tight spatial tolerances.
  2. Structural steel had to be coordinated precisely with MEP systems in high-risk areas.
  3. Any clashes or inaccuracies could lead to RFIs, site delays, or rework.
  4. The client required BIM outputs that were both fabrication-ready and coordination-ready.

Our Detailing Approach

  1. We developed a LOD 350 BIM model integrating structural steel with coordinated service zones.
  2. Tekla models were used for accurate steel detailing, while Navisworks supported clash detection and coordination reviews.
  3. A BIM-led coordination workflow was implemented to resolve clashes early between steel and services.
  4. Connections, tolerances, and interfaces were modelled with fabrication and installation in mind.
  5. All detailing was delivered in accordance with Eurocodes and data-center coordination requirements.

Deliverables

  1. Fabrication-ready shop drawings.
  2. Coordinated GA drawings reflecting clash-free service interfaces.
  3. Assembly drawings aligned with installation sequencing.
  4. Fabrication files and coordinated BIM models for downstream use.

Results & Value Delivered

  1. Significant reduction in RFIs through early clash resolution.
  2. Delivered clash-free steel detailing in dense service areas.
  3. Improved coordination confidence for both design and construction teams.
  4. Supported smooth fabrication and site installation on a mission-critical facility.

Value to the Client

  1. Delivered BIM-led steel detailing tailored to data-center complexity.
  2. Reduced coordination risk through early, model-based validation.
  3. Enabled predictable fabrication and installation outcomes.
  4. Demonstrated strong experience in EU and Ireland data-center compliance.
