Project Snapshot
Project type: Data center
Location: Ireland
Project scale: Large
Client type: Consultant
Project status: Completed
Software: Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, Ideastatica, Navisworks
Scope of work: Structural steel detailing and BIM modelling up to LOD 350
The Challenge
- The project involved dense service zones with extremely tight spatial tolerances.
- Structural steel had to be coordinated precisely with MEP systems in high-risk areas.
- Any clashes or inaccuracies could lead to RFIs, site delays, or rework.
- The client required BIM outputs that were both fabrication-ready and coordination-ready.
Our Detailing Approach
- We developed a LOD 350 BIM model integrating structural steel with coordinated service zones.
- Tekla models were used for accurate steel detailing, while Navisworks supported clash detection and coordination reviews.
- A BIM-led coordination workflow was implemented to resolve clashes early between steel and services.
- Connections, tolerances, and interfaces were modelled with fabrication and installation in mind.
- All detailing was delivered in accordance with Eurocodes and data-center coordination requirements.
Deliverables
- Fabrication-ready shop drawings.
- Coordinated GA drawings reflecting clash-free service interfaces.
- Assembly drawings aligned with installation sequencing.
- Fabrication files and coordinated BIM models for downstream use.
Results & Value Delivered
- Significant reduction in RFIs through early clash resolution.
- Delivered clash-free steel detailing in dense service areas.
- Improved coordination confidence for both design and construction teams.
- Supported smooth fabrication and site installation on a mission-critical facility.
Value to the Client
- Delivered BIM-led steel detailing tailored to data-center complexity.
- Reduced coordination risk through early, model-based validation.
- Enabled predictable fabrication and installation outcomes.
- Demonstrated strong experience in EU and Ireland data-center compliance.
